May Day 2013 Resolution For Wreath Laying Ceremony

May Day 2013 Resolution For Wreath Laying Ceremony
RESOLUTION FOR THE WREATH LAYING CEREMONY AT THE 8 HOUR MONUMENT FOR MAY DAY 2013 IN MELBOURNE
Here at the 8 Hour monument opposite the Victorian Trades Hall Council we come together as part of the Melbourne May Day celebrations in 2013.
We come together to remember the heroic struggles of workers to fight for and win the shorter working week and other improvements to their work and their lives.
Today workers are having to struggle anew to protect their wages and conditions, their rights at work and in their wider community activities, to prevent war, to protect the global environment and to fight against exploitation, poverty and oppression.
The crisis of global capitalism is obvious for all to see. Only a labour movement, united in struggle and with a vision of winning a just, civilised, democratic, fair and welcoming society can prevent and end the social destruction wreaked by the profit motive.
Let us renew our commitment at May Day 2013 to honour the fighting spirit and achievements of past workers as memorialised by this monument, and ensure progress for the world’s people.
Long live national and international solidarity.

LEN COOPER
Secretary
Melbourne May day Committee
